About EnchantCalc

EnchantCalc is a free Minecraft enchantment calculator that finds the cheapest anvil order for combining enchanted books, for both Java and Bedrock Edition. Cost rules follow the Minecraft Wiki anvil mechanics. We check results against the Wiki's own examples: its 7-book boots example costs 66 levels on the Wiki, and EnchantCalc returns 66 too. EnchantCalc is maintained by an independent developer and is not an official Minecraft product.

Supported versions and scope

EnchantCalc supports Java 26.3 & Bedrock. Results are exact for combining fresh enchanted books onto an unenchanted item; Bedrock matches Java except for Impaling, which has a lower multiplier on Bedrock. Starting from an already-enchanted item is not supported yet. Sweeping Edge is available only in Java. Choose your edition before calculating so the available enchantments and costs match your game.

Sources and verification

The Wiki example uses Soul Speed III, Thorns III, Mending I, Depth Strider III, Feather Falling IV, Protection IV and Unbreaking III. Automated checks verify the 66-level total, seven steps and the 39-level Survival limit for each step. Additional checks cover conflicts and edition differences. These examples help catch regressions when the calculator changes. The accompanying enchantments list explains maximum levels, compatible items and conflicting pairs. The planner shows the level cost of each operation and warns about “Too Expensive” steps. It assumes fresh books and an unenchanted item; prior anvil work can change your in-game costs. Use the contact email to report unexpected results or game version changes, including your enchantment combination and game version.
