Minecraft Nether Portal Calculator
How to use
- Pick the direction: Overworld to Nether or Nether to Overworld.
- Type the X, Y and Z coordinates you read from the F3 screen (Java) or the coordinates display (Bedrock).
- Build your portal at the coordinates shown, then light both portals.
How Nether coordinates work
Horizontal distance in the Nether is scaled 1:8. To go from the Overworld to the Nether divide X and Z by 8; to go back, multiply by 8. Y is not scaled. Build the Nether portal as close as possible to the converted point to link portals reliably – the game searches a 16-block radius in the Nether (128 in the Overworld) for an existing portal.
Nether coordinates calculator: overworld to nether converter
This Minecraft nether portal calculator works as a nether coordinates calculator in both directions. Use the overworld to nether converter when you want a fast nether highway, and nether to overworld when you come back.
How to link nether portals
Build portal A in the Overworld, convert its X/Z with the calculator, then build portal B at exactly those Nether coordinates. Two portals closer together than the search radius will link to each other.
Nether portal ratio 1:8 example
| Overworld X, Z | Nether X, Z |
|---|---|
| 800, −1200 | 100, −150 |
| 8000, 8000 | 1000, 1000 |
| −250, 64 | −32, 8 |

FAQ
How do I convert Overworld coordinates to the Nether?
Divide X and Z by 8 and keep Y. For example, Overworld X 800, Z −1200 becomes Nether X 100, Z −150.
Does the Y coordinate change?
No. Only X and Z are scaled. Keep Y similar, but remember the Nether roof is at Y 128.
Why did my portal link to the wrong place?
The game links to the nearest existing portal within range of the converted point. Build the second portal exactly at the converted coordinates to avoid mis-linking.
